RED
SCARE
Red Scare is the fear of radical leftism or communism when it been promoted, often in the media. It is a form of hysteria mostly common during two periods, one during the revolution from October 1917 to 1920, the other between the 1940s and 1960s. therefore during the Cold War which opposes the U.S. and the Soviet Union. After World War II, the second Red Scare happened due to a fear of communist espionage. Red Scare can be related to McCarthyism, which refers to the desire to reduce the expression of left-winging political or social opinions. During this period, all those suspected of communist sympathies became the subject of investigations, known collectively as the "Witch Hunt". Personalities from the media, cinema, politics and the army were accused of being spies in the Soviet Union's power. Homosexuals were also the victims of McCarthyism. Meanwhile, an anti-homosexual campaign, the violet fear, is developing. The red used in " red scare " refers to the colour of the communist flag, represented with a yellow sickle and hammer on an all-red background. Moreover, the Red Scare has caused some social influences. The second Red Scare profoundly changes the nature of American society. Its characteristic, later considered anti-intellectual, can be considered to have played a role in the popularity of anti-communist spy movies, with stories on the themes of infiltration, subversion, invasion and destruction of American society by anti-American thought and inhuman beings.
